Chapter 33 Summary: “Frank”

Arion travels at sonic speeds and takes the three friends into Canada in a matter of minutes. They stop when the wheels fall off the chariot. Frank realizes they are very close to his grandmother’s property, where he was raised. They decide to go there and get a good night’s sleep in proper beds. However, when they have almost reached the property, they stumble on a camp of Laistrygonians, or ogres. Percy, whose memory is beginning to return because of the gorgon blood, recalls fighting them once before but it required Celestial bronze, which they don’t have. Frank decides to use the second charge on his spear. When the skeleton appears, Frank orders it to attack the ogres and “lead them off to the west” (350). The skeleton, which Percy says is a spartan, silently kills all six ogres. However, Frank is worried that Hazel will think differently of him now that she has seen what the spear can do.

Chapter 34 Summary: “Frank”

Frank is worried by the state of his grandmother’s house. Dishes are undone and the living room is cluttered, things his grandmother would never have allowed before. The friends make their way upstairs and find Frank’s grandmother in her bedroom with
