Activity

Use these activities to engage all types of learners, while requiring that they refer to and incorporate details from the text over the course of the activity.

ACTIVITY: “Point of View Swap”

Rewrite a chapter of OCDaniel from the perspective of two different characters, envisioning what their experiences might be like interacting with Daniel. Consider the way Daniel thinks of them, and whether his impression is reliable or not.

  • Write a chapter from the perspective of a character you enjoyed reading about who positively impacts Daniel’s development in the novel.
  • Switch your perspective to that of a character who negatively impacts Daniel’s experiences in the novel.

Teaching Suggestion: Model writing a paragraph from each character perspective, describing the character’s internal thoughts and impressions. Craft an outline to inspire thoughts about how to construct the different points of view.
